Making Waves is a coming-of-age sports drama about Allie Dawson, a gifted high school water polo player who moves with her single mother, Mary, to a new town — hoping a fresh start will bring them closer to a more stable future. But when Allie learns that the girls’ water polo season has been canceled, she fights for a spot on the Central High boys’ team — seeing it as her only way to earn a college scholarship and an opportunity for a better future.

As Allie begins to prove she belongs, the pressure around her intensifies. She faces a hostile teammate, school politics, and the fear that one mistake could cost her everything. Beneath her toughness is a wound she does not fully know how to carry: her father left, and Allie has turned that absence into both anger and ambition. Her bond with Mary — loving, messy, and full of hope — becomes both her anchor and a source of pressure, as they both want Allie’s talent to become their way out.

When Jared’s bullying escalates, Allie is forced to decide whether excellence alone can protect her, or whether she has to learn to trust other people, including Travis, a teammate who is both an ally and a threat, and Zoe, a former girls’ player who becomes an unexpected source of strength, strategy, and emotional connection. For Allie, trusting them means risking the thing she fears most: needing people who might disappoint her.
